The Botanical garden is maintained by the Tamilnadu horticultural society and covers an area of 22 hectares. It is located on the slope of the Doddabetta peak, The garden has a terraced layout. A variety of large wild animals such as Indian bison, elephant, deer and tiger are found there. Established in 1973, the sanctuary is now an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. It is bounded by a protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka on the northeast, and on the southeast by Mudumalai. Elephants, tigers, panthers, jungle cats, civet cats, monkeys, wild dogs, bisons, deer, bears, monitor lizards and a variety of snakes are seen. Edakkal Cave

Edakkal Cave is two natural caves at a remote location at Edakkal, 25 km from Kalpetta in the Wayanad. The name ‘Edakkal’ literally means ‘a stone in between’. Here you can see a cave formed by a heavy boulder straddling a fissure in the rock. The caves contain drawings that range over periods from the Neolithic as early as 5,000 BC to 1,000 BCE. Inside the caves are pictorial writings believed to date to at least 6,000 BCE. The caves were discovered by Fred Fawcett, the then Superintendent of Police of the Malabar district in 1890, during his hunting trip to Wayanad.
